The Department of Clinical Sciences at Auburn Universitys College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applications from qualified individuals for a clinical-track or tenure-track ophthalmology position at faculty rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. The ophthalmology section at Auburn University is committed to excellence in clinical service, teaching of professional veterinary students, and resident training. It is complemented by specialists in small animal medicine and surgery, equine medicine and surgery, food animal medicine and surgery, avian and exotic medicine, equine theriogenology, food animal theriogenology, dairy medicine, sports medicine, emergency critical care, medical, surgical and radiation oncology, anesthesia, cardiology, dermatology, neurology, radiology, and pathology. Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to participate in teaching, clinical service, outreach, and research. Teaching responsibilities include the clinical and didactic instructional activities of the professional veterinary medicine and postgraduate training programs related to ophthalmology. Clinical service responsibilities include a hospital assignment of approximately 50% for tenure track and 75% for clinical track. This involves providing clinical care of patients, teaching veterinary medical students, intern and resident training, and consultation with private practitioners. Ophthalmology at Auburn University has a diverse caseload consisting of small animal, equine, and other species. The ophthalmology service provides primary patient care in the small animal hospital, collaborative care with the equine medicine service, and consultation for the food animal service, exotic animal medicine, and southeastern raptor center. The College of Veterinary Medicine is located on about 350 acres on the rural perimeter of the Auburn University campus. The small animal teaching hospital is housed in the Wilford and Kate Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital, a state-of-the-art facility, completed in xxxx, that provides 208,000 sq. feet dedicated to meeting the Colleges mission of practicing the highest standards of veterinary medicine. The facility includes a dedicated ophthalmology suite that consists of ultrasound, procedure, ERG, and rounds rooms, and day time patient wards. In addition, there are three dedicated ophthalmology examination rooms and a dedicated ophthalmology surgical suite. A 71,500 square foot state-of-the-art large animal hospital opened in xxxx. It has separate inpatient and outpatient barns, an isolation ward, and covered lameness arena. Large animal surgery is supported by four surgery suites and four recovery rooms. Ophthalmology equipment includes three operating microscopes, ocular ultrasound (10,20 and 50 MHz probes), Ocu-Science ERG equipment, Diovet laser, and AMO Whitestar Signature(R) Phacoemulsification system. Other equipment onsite includes Co2 surgical laser (Aesculight), Eklin digital radiology, linear accelerator, 1.5T Phillips MRI, GE 64-slice CT scan (both with large and small animal capabilities), standing equine CT, 3-D printing capabilities, Brainsight(R) stereotactic system, a Siemens digital RF suite, 2 Phillips iE 33 ultrasound machines, and 2 Phillips HD11-XE ultrasound machines. The Auburn University MRI center provides 3T and 7T MRI service for client and research patients. The small animal and large animal ICU facilities are approved for ACVECC training, and have dialysis capabilities. The vibrant Auburn-Opelika community has a population of 151,000.
